Aqua Organza Wings by WinterFlightDesign Aqua Organza Wings by WinterFlightDesign
iPhone photo - Aqua organza wings. (Offically my second pair of finished wings. Probably my 6th or 7th attempt at wings, ever, though.)

The wings are beautiful! If I may ask, how did you make the holes in the wings? I've seen people try to burn through pantyhose, but does that work for organza?

Also, was the organza already that colour? or did you paint / dye it?

For the Holes: I used an incense stick (and a lot of time and patience) to carefully singe the holes in the material. I then used an iridescent glitter fabric paint (the dimensional paint in the tube type) to further accent and seal/strengthen the edges that were singed. I'm not entirely convinced it was necessary and should I do it again using the same technique, I think I may use a colored dimensional paint to accent it.

For the Color: The organza was that color to start; I did nothing to the colors. If I use the organza again (there is a healthy overage - better to have too much than not enough) I may try different coloring or shading techniques, likely using some of the acrylic paints I have in abundance lying around the house.

Ahhh, the dimensional paint is a good touch... that's what I've done wrong in the past, I've never given my burned holes any additional sealing.

Thanks for replying! Your info will help me improve my projects greatly!

Love the wings, they are so adorable! Did you also create the dress?
